Port of Dartmouth Royal Regatta

The Port of Dartmouth Royal Regatta is rightly known as the ‘Best in the West’. It does live up to its reputation with great sailing and rowing competitions plus the famous onshore events and entertainment. Thousands of visitors come to Dartmouth every August for a packed programme of sailing, sports, live music, street food, fireworks and more.
The whole week is packed with competitions, family fun events, entertainment, live music - and it’s free to attend!! There is a small charge to enter some competitions, such as the famous Spot the Oddity, but otherwise just come and soak up the wonderful relaxed summer regatta atmosphere.
Here at the Dartmouth Steam Railway, we will be running additional trains on Regatta Saturday, 30th August. Extra trains depart Paignton with a last departure leaving you plenty of time to watch the fireworks and catch the ferry back to Kingswear for your return journey. - Perfect day - We have done this several times over the years and is a fantastic day out. The steam train ride is great, but the cruise makes it. The commentary is very good and funny. Would definitely recommend this trip if in the area.
- So organised - So well organised. All had seat reservations and the coaches were extremely clean. The river cruise did not disappoint and without doubt one of the best commentaries I have ever heard. Without exception everyone enjoyed the day out, and thought it was the highlight of our holiday. A credit to all.
- Charming - We did a round trip from Totnes to Dartmouth. The trip was wonderful with clean comfortable boat, nice staff and excellent commentary (and nice refreshments). On the return we were treated to an extra spin past the two castles at the mouth of the estuary. Marvelous.
