Port of Dartmouth Royal Regatta

On 22nd August 2026 to 30th August 2026 Dartmouth

The Port of Dartmouth Royal Regatta is rightly known as the ‘Best in the West’. It does live up to its reputation with great sailing and rowing competitions plus the famous onshore events and entertainment. Thousands of visitors come to Dartmouth every August for a packed programme of sailing, sports, live music, street food, fireworks and more.

The whole week is packed with competitions, family fun events, entertainment, live music - and it’s free to attend!!  There is a small charge to enter some competitions, such as the famous Spot the Oddity, but otherwise just come and soak up the wonderful relaxed summer regatta atmosphere.

Here at the Dartmouth Steam Railway, we will be running additional trains on Regatta Saturday, 30th August. Extra trains depart Paignton with a last departure leaving you plenty of time to watch the fireworks and catch the ferry back to Kingswear for your return journey. See below for the timetable for Regatta Saturday (all other days are as per our published timetable).

Happy days!

Reviews

  • A thoroughly enjoyable day out - I was very impressed with the organisation, it was always very clear where we were supposed to go and what time we were supposed to be somewhere - would happily do it again.
  • So organised - So well organised. All had seat reservations and the coaches were extremely clean. The river cruise did not disappoint and without doubt one of the best commentaries I have ever heard. Without exception everyone enjoyed the day out, and thought it was the highlight of our holiday. A credit to all.
  • Chugging along! - The cruise along the River Dart was delightful and the witty commentary was also very informative. The last leg on the steam train was fantastic - chugging along past the beautiful beaches with children waving to you from the sands. Just priceless! We had the most amazing day, the itinerary is done with military precision and is therefore relaxing and exciting - we really loved it. This has got to be a "must do" trip!
